Alkerton Rangers F.C. 2015-16  Season

It has been a challenging season for Alkerton Rangers.

With the en masse departure of last season’s First team, the Reserves were forced to step up two divisions to Stroud and District League Division Four.

With a strengthening of the squad things looked up, but poor early results against what proved to be the top two sides brought a touch of realism. In the weeks that followed manager Kev Bond focused his troops and two excellent results against high-flying teams – a draw away to Chalford Reserves and a defeat of Cotswold Rangers – gave cause for optimism.

Unfortunately, Rangers lacked consistency and found themselves in the same predicament in a number of matches, where chances were created but not taken, although Ash Gallagher weighed in with a handsome total from midfield. A spate of injuries, some long-term, did not help the cause, but the spirit of the squad remained high due in part to the large Eastington contingent.

An eighth place finish with 18 points was the reward for the great effort from the players, and with the right recruitment, Rangers are looking to progress and aim for honours next season.

Hearty congratulations must go to Paul Wilkinson who completed his 30th season at the club, an incredible feat that will surely not be rivalled.

The team will begin pre-season training at the Owen Harris Memorial Ground at Snakey Lane in Eastington in the first week of July.
