Defibrillators for Eastington

Eastington Parish Council would like to purchase 2-3 defibrillators for the Parish. Exact locations are yet to be decided but would reflect the probable/expected usage.

The defibrillators would be publicly accessible and stored in a cabinet on the outside of a building, clearly signposted. The cabinet can be locked with a keypad, and the Ambulance Service would give out the code in times of need. You do not need training to use a defibrillator; the machine talks to you and you will also have the emergency services on the end of the phone (they don’t hang up until a medical professional arrives with you).

In some parishes, old phone boxes have been used to house the units. In other parishes, the defibrillator is stored in a cabinet attached to the outside wall of a shop. In all cases, the defibrillator needs access to power to ensure the cabinet doesn’t drop below freezing (and damages the battery). The electricity costs approximately £20 per year.

So what happens now? Well, the cost is around £2000 per unit including the cabinet and the Parish Council is hoping to raise funds to purchase up to 3 defibrillators.
